As I will be using plastic in my main/final images, I decided to look at artist Rebecca Scheinberg as I feel her aesthetics are quite similar to my desired outcomes. Mainly I admire Scheinberg’s colour pallet, she has intertwined certain colours within her work to achieve this vintage yet modern mood, to me this is especially present in ‘THE DEBRIEF’. The pale skin contrasted with the pink nails and blue water evokes a certain futuristic atmosphere.
The second image that inspired me was TOHU VA BOHU for both aesthetic and conceptual purposes. I feel like the subject present in the image has the appearance of a plastic pill. This encourages me to think about an artificial reality, how in this current day individuals use medication to improve and enhance themselves. Then my thoughts expanded to the idea of artificial beauty, the idea that we use cosmetics and other materialistic items to fit into a socially constructed idea of beauty. This whole idea could relate or emphasize my theme of exhaustion, as it is a constant battle to fit into this social construction, especially in London.
I can convey this idea through the use of cling-film as the plastic element will be visible to the viewer. I feel it will create the notion of entrapment but also visually communicate a sense of a plastic reality.
